The Smart 3-Day Circuit (Don't Miss Either!)

By renting an LA-02 motorcycle in Leh, you can execute the direct Shyok Valley loop: Leh → Khardung La → Nubra (Night 1) → Shyok River Route → Pangong Tso (Night 2) → Chang La → Leh (Day 3). This avoids riding back to Leh in between and lets you experience both legendary destinations seamlessly.

If You Can Only Ride One: A Deeper Look

Choose Nubra Valley if you're still acclimatizing, riding with a pillion who gets altitude headaches easily, or traveling with kids or older family members — the overnight stop at Hunder (3,048m) is a genuinely comfortable rest compared to sleeping at Pangong's 4,350m. Nubra also gives you more to do at the destination itself: the Hunder sand dunes, Bactrian camel rides, Diskit Monastery's cliffside Maitreya Buddha, and (with an extra day) the Turtuk village extension near the Line of Control.

Choose Pangong Tso if the iconic 134 km turquoise lake is the single image that made you want to ride to Ladakh in the first place — no photo does it justice in person. It's also the shorter round trip from Leh (320 km over 2 days vs. Nubra's typical 3-day structure with Turtuk), which matters if your flight schedule is genuinely tight.

Permit Requirements Are Identical for Both

Both destinations sit inside restricted border zones, so both require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) processed in Leh before you ride — there's no permit-complexity difference to factor into this decision. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for either route, arranged the same way through a registered Leh operator.
