Detailed Itinerary
Leh to Chumathang (Along the Indus River)
We ride east from Leh, following the Indus River. The road is well-paved and scenic. We stop at Chumathang, famous for its therapeutic boiling hot water springs along the riverbanks. Check into our basic guesthouse and relax by bathing in the natural spring water pools.
Chumathang to Tso Moriri Lake (Karzok)
We cross the Mahe Bridge checkpoint, entering the restricted Changthang plateau. The road turns to gravel and sand. We ride past Kiagar Tso lake and spot groups of wild Kiangs (Tibetan wild asses) grazing. We reach the high wetland sanctuary of Tso Moriri (4,522m) and check into Korzok village camps.
Tso Moriri to Leh via Tso Kar Lake & More Plains
Today we ride across the wild Rupshu Plateau, joining the highway near Tso Kar (a saline white lake). We climb onto the More Plains, cross the Tanglang La Pass (5,328m / 17,480 ft), and descend into Leh for a farewell dinner.
Departure from Leh
Expedition concludes. We organize transfers to the Leh airport after breakfast.
